Mayan Resorts Los Cabos - Simplicity is the Name of the Game
-
Los Cabos offers numerous world-class golf courses of the most luxurious caliber. Mayan Resorts Los Cabos Golf Club is not one of them. Yet there is something proportionately enchanting about this lesser known gem, not to mention the greatly discounted rates in comparison to those more famous (yet exorbitant) courses. All skill levels can enjoy the Mayan Resorts course, which is nestled into the desert with views of the shimmering Sea of Cortez and the cape of San Jose del Cabo. If you’ve already played the other fantastic courses in Los Cabos and are looking for something different, this course is a good option.
The Mayan Resorts golf course is bordered by condominiums. It is quite common to break windows, but please don’t make a habit of it. Bougainvilleas are everywhere, offering a rainbow kaleidoscope of colors to captivate your imagination.
This course is played quite frequently and therefore usually has some divots and wear and tear. The groundskeepers do an admirable job on keeping the course in decent shape, but this course gets a fair amount of play throughout the year, so nothing is perfect.
It’s first-come-first-serve at Mayan Resorts Los Cabos Golf Club, so try to avoid peak hours such as mornings and weekends. Playing in the late afternoon is the best way to avoid the heat and take advantage of reduced twilight rates.
This nine hole course was created by FONATUR (the Mexican government’s development agency) and sold to the Mayan Palace in 2004. The course is popular with locals and those looking for something new.
Many Los Cabos courses are challenging and even a little frustrating, but Mayan Resorts Los Cabos Golf Club was designed for beginners and intermediate level players.
Greens fees are 100 dollars or less for nine holes, depending on what time of day you play. No reservations are required. Cart rental will cost an additional 38 dollars for nine holes, 44 dollars for eighteen. Golf club rental is available for between 20 to 45 dollars, depending on how many holes you plan on playing and whether you prefer Taylor or Physics clubs. There are snacks, bottled water and other beverages available at the caddy shack.
This par 35 nine hole oasis stretches an impressive 3,141 yards, offering a desert terrain ideal for all members of the family. Some of the most popular holes on this Mayan Palace course include the opening hole: offering an extraordinary panoramic vista of the sparkling Sea of Cortez. This par four first provides a downward slope with a wide, dog-leg fairway that fades left.
The seventh hole features a large lake off to the left of the green and a bunker behind the green. From the seventh you’ll enjoy a majestic view of the sea and mountains. The final hole offers an abundance of sand traps and a spacious, sloping fairway.
The Mayan Resorts Los Cabos Golf Club is not one of those pretentious Los Cabos courses that forces you to pay a few hundred dollars for a piece of paradise. Here at Mayan Resorts, you can enjoy an affordable golf experience on a nice simple course which offers stunning ocean views and is perfect for golfers of all levels. There’s nothing spectacular about it, but perhaps that’s what makes it so enticing.
