SAN DIEGO, CA – July 25, 2022 – iGolf is excited to partner with PhiNetworks Co., Ltd., the Seoul, South Korea-based sports technology company behind Phigolf, a home golf simulator that has brought virtual golf to more than 300,000 players worldwide. Through the partnership, iGolf’s global course mapping and geospatial technology will support the Phigolf ecosystem, combining the accessibility of its motion sensor-driven simulator with detailed representations of real-world golf courses.
Through the partnership, Phigolf will integrate iGolf’s comprehensive golf course database and mapping technology into its platform, providing the real-world course intelligence behind its virtual golf experience. With iGolf’s database covering more than 40,000 mapped golf courses across 177 countries, including detailed hole layouts, green geometry, geospatial information, and 3D elevation terrain, Phigolf can provide its users with a significantly expanded foundation for recreating courses from around the world within its simulation environment.
Founded in 2008 and led by CEO Kim Young-hoon, PhiNetworks launched Phigolf with the goal of making golf more accessible regardless of weather, location, or access to a traditional golf course. The system combines a motion sensor swing device with an application available across mobile and wearable platforms, allowing golfers to play and practice at home without the space or investment traditionally associated with a full simulator installation. The platform supports multiplayer golf, swing analysis with 3D visualization, full rounds, and alternative game modes, while integration with TruGolf’s E6 Connect further expands the simulation experience.
The combination of Phigolf’s accessible hardware and iGolf’s global mapping infrastructure also creates opportunities that extend beyond entertainment. Golfers can experience representations of courses they already play, explore unfamiliar courses before traveling, and develop a better understanding of individual hole layouts before arriving at the first tee. By connecting virtual golf more closely with real-world course geometry, the partnership helps narrow the gap between playing golf at home and experiencing the course itself.
“Phigolf has done something particularly interesting by making the simulator experience accessible to golfers who may never have considered putting golf technology in their home,” said Ryan Kimberling, Vice President of Sales & Strategy at iGolf. “With more than 300,000 players around the world, they’ve demonstrated that virtual golf can reach well beyond traditional simulator installations. We’re excited to combine that accessibility with iGolf’s course mapping and geospatial intelligence, giving golfers new ways to experience and explore real golf courses wherever they happen to be.”
